Afternoon Tea Week Tip: Set the Scene

This will go a long way in setting the mood for your event, and it won’t hurt that customers will want to take pictures and post online. Decide on a theme and decorate accordingly, or use table runners, floral centre pieces and branded napkins for a few ideas to get your design mind flowing.

Savoury Bites for Afternoon Tea Week

The choice of finger sandwiches is yours to tailor, however, strategic planning is key in assembling this delightful spread. Opt for fillings that can be prepared in advance and easily assembled on the day. Consider classic choices like cucumber, coronation chicken, and egg mayonnaise, which can be prepped a day before. This approach allows for the creation of a more unconventional selection, including options like an asparagus and smoked salmon pinwheel, or even a Japanese-style fruit sandwich!

Sweet Treats for Afternoon Tea Week

Individual portions are paramount for achieving the aesthetic of an afternoon tea. If you have a theme for your tea, let that guide your flavours and decorations. If not, consider flavours that work well together. Bake a plentiful batch of petite cupcakes adorned with charming decorations. Other ideas here are rocky road, blondies, and cookies. These treats can be generously loaded with toppings. Notably, these recipes can be prepared in less than an hour, allowing for convenience in either making them the night before or on the morning of your event.

Scones for Afternoon Tea Week

Scones serve as the focal point of any afternoon tea, their soft and fluffy centre providing an ideal foundation for generous portions of clotted cream and jam. While scones are most enjoyable when consumed freshly made, they can be prepared in advance, frozen, and then defrosted in a low oven on the day of the event. While strawberry jam remains a classic choice, embrace the opportunity to utilize seasonal produce by offering rhubarb preserve, enriched with spices such as fiery ginger and chili, for a delightful twist.
